Packaging a farm brand for the shelf
Rood Design collaborated with Torny&Ingrid to design the product packaging for Hanasand Gård, a series of three condiments covering ketchup, spicy ketchup, and BBQ sauce, produced by Besætt from tomatoes grown on Hanasand Gård.
The packaging brief was rooted in ownership. Hanasand Gård had recently undergone a brand refresh, and these labels needed to carry that identity forward with confidence, making the farm's provenance visible and central rather than a footnote on the back of the bottle.
The label system is built on two layers working together. The upper section of each label is clean and restrained, led by the architectural H monogram and the Hanasand wordmark, establishing the farm as the primary voice. Below it, a bold circular device carries the product name in confident display type, set against a deep tomato red, grounding each variant in the product itself while keeping the family coherent across all three.
Colour does the differentiating work between variants without breaking the system. A cream ground gives the ketchup a classic, fresh quality. The spicy ketchup and BBQ sauce shift to a muted slate, adding depth and distinction while staying within the same visual family. All colours are taken directly from Hanasand Gård’s updated colour palette. The Besætt producer credit anchors the base of each label, acknowledging the production partnership without competing for attention.
The result is a shelf presence that reads as a farm product with genuine craft behind it: honest, considered, and recognisably from the same hand that shaped the wider Hanasand Gård identity.
